Thursday, 03 May 2007 Internet Advertising on MSN-Yahoo? The latest word on Internet advertising consolidation: Rumors has it that Microsoft is putting together a $50 Billion bid for Yahoo, the number two player in the Internet advertising space. Besides making a lot of Yahoo investors richer, this may have great impact on the landscape of online ads. An MSN-Yahoo combined market share would reach 38.4 percent, but still trail behind Google’s strong 48.3% market dominance.
The MSN-Yahoo merger would mean better technology expertise from Microsoft and better media expertise from Yahoo. The combined strengths of the two will be an awakening for Google, whose performance continues to surpass analyst expectations. Yahoo has never really been viewed as a technology company and this combination can provide the company with the technical strength needed to properly challenge Google.
Recently Internet advertising companies have been gobbled up as competition stiffens. Google is buying DoubleClick and Yahoo is taking in the remainder of Right Media that it doesn’t already own. 24/7 Real Media, ValueClick, and aQuantive are also on the acquisition radar. |
